Homicide No. 81: Napolean Plummer Shot After Fight Over Buying a Car

A fight over buying a car turned violent early Wednesday morning when a man shot and killed a teenager in south St. Louis, according to St. Louis metropolitan police.

Police found eighteen-year-old Napolean Plummer, of the 9700 block of Lilac Drive, dead inside a car with a gunshot wound to the back at 12:17 a.m. The shooter, a 26-year-old man, is in custody, police said.

Plummer went to the alleged shooter's home in the 7200 block of Michigan Avenue early Tuesday morning to talk about buying a car. After talking turned into fighting, Plummer pulled out a gun and fired shots, striking the suspect's house, police said.

Plummer and his seventeen-year-old friend got in the car to leave when the suspect walked up with a gun and began firing. Police found Plummer's body inside the car about half of a mile south in the 500 block of Courtois Street and found the friend about half a mile north at I-55 and Loughborough Avenue.

Officers responded to the area of I-55 and Loughborough and upon arrival at this location, located Victim #2, who reported that his friend had been shot while in the 7200 block of Michigan. After a search of the area, Victim #1 was located in the 500 block of Courtois inside a vehicle, unconscious. Victim #1 had sustained a gunshot wound to his back and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Investigation revealed that the victims had responded to the suspect's residence, where Victim #1 and the suspect became engaged in an argument over the purchase of an automobile. The argument ended and Victim #1 produced a firearm and fired shots, striking the suspect's house. As the victims entered their vehicle and began to leave the scene, the suspect approached, produced a firearm and fired into the victims' vehicle, striking Victim #1. Both firearms were recovered. The suspect was taken into custody and warrants will be applied for at the Circuit Attorney's Office. The investigation is ongoing.
