The byline of longtime political reporter Jo Mannies will continue to appear in the local daily, contrary to a previous announcement by the paper.

Mannies, who covers state politics from St. Louis, told KMOX’s Mark Reardon today that she is technically retiring as of Friday in order to take advantage of some "use-it-or-lose-it" retirement benefits.

Mannies said she and the paper worked out an arrangement in which she will continue to write her Thursday column, as well as other stories, but can also freelance for other media.

Mannies joined the Post in the mid-'70s. That makes her byline one of the longest-running at the paper, in the wake of lay-offs over the last two months.
