The owner of Legends Comics and Sports Cards, Kenneth McClure, held police at bay for more than four hours yesterday after authorities attempted to arrest him on charges of statutory rape involving a 13-year-old girl.

The St. Louis police report that they were attempting to serve warrants on the 57-year-old McClure yesterday around 5:20 p.m. when he drew a gun on officers inside his comic book shop in the 5800 block of Hampton. The officers took cover inside the building and radioed for assistance.

A SWAT team and hostage negotiator soon arrived and the police inside the store were able to make it out of the building unharmed around 6:30 p.m. The standoff continued for three more hours before McClure was taken into custody.

Earlier yesterday McClure had been charged with third-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon (in addition to the charge of statutory rape) with a judge ordering that he be held on a $75,000 bond. Police say the 13-year-old victim in the case is not related to McClure.
