Murder, fire, and severed-arm throwing in Kirksville
Having lived in Kirksville for five years as a college student, I witnessed some dark behavior, but this was NOT how the townspeople normally behaved.
According to the
Kirksville Daily Express, the cops came to Valley Forge Drive at 11 pm on Sunday night to respond to a vehicle fire.
They showed up and started investigating the burning vehicle -- then learned that, up the street, two apartment units were on fire.
When they came up on those two burning apartments, officers saw 49-year-old Paul R. Potter, throwing things at witnesses.
Those things were human arms.
Cops found the corresponding (and dismembered) body in one of the units. The body appeared to have been stabbed multiple times.
Potter reportedly set the fires to destroy evidence, but admitted what he did several times to the cops.
He now faces charges of second-degree murder, arson and tampering with a broken vehicle.
He's being held on a bond of $1 million.
