Latest Use for Ballpark Village: Military Staging Ground

An alert reader just emailed Daily RFT the following image of Ballpark Village taken today.

Don't know about you, but I don't see in this photo the dazzling display of commercial, retail and residential space that the Cardinals ownership has promised to bring to the site the past five years.

So, what the hell is going on? Why are tanks and military airships now parked on Ballpark Village?

Well, the best team in baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies, are in St. Louis this week to play the Cardinals. Could it be part of their impressive lineup of weaponry? (Why, isn't that Roy Halladay and Ryan Howard stepping off that V-22 Osprey?)

Or maybe the vehicles are what the nation's sheriffs drove into town for their annual conference? Wait, we know, it's part of Mayor Francis Slay's initiative to rid St. Louis of its "Most Dangerous City" moniker!

Alas, no. It's lamer than all that. Today through Sunday is Marine Week in St. Louis.

Semper fi!
