Lohan had been tripping the night fantastic on Saturday at Manhattan clubs Double Seven and 1Oak, then invited some friends back to her room at the W Hotel in Union Square.
She also invited the congressional staffer, Christian LaBella, who is from California and apparently loves ugly dogs (see photo -- no, on the bottom right).
But shortly before sun-up, Lohan realized LaBella had been snapping photos of her earlier in the night and sending them to pals. So she grabbed his phone and wouldn't give it back. Cue the crazy!
According to the New York Daily News, which had obscenely good coverage of this non-event:
LaBella demanded she return the phone, but Lohan balked -- and told cops he threw her down on the bed and scratched her. At one point, the troubled actress locked herself in a bathroom. She finally ran out of the 15th-floor suite -- where rooms top $500 a night -- and scurried down several flights of stairs, with [celebrity booker Claus] Hjelmbak in tow.
When the "Freaky Friday" star and her hunky pal began walking back up the stairs, they again encountered LaBella, sources said.
She claimed that he choked her from behind and threw her to the floor before Hjelmbak yanked him away, cops said. Lohan pulled the fire alarm for help as he fled, police said.
Lohan accused LaBella of assault, and cops took him in, but released him later.
He and Lohan filed harassment charges against each other.
But what does Congressman Shimkus think about all this? He hasn't commented, but someone from his office did confirm that LaBella worked in his D.C. office.
The Post-Dispatch is already referring to him an "Ex" staffer. Yeah, probably.
Even worse for LaBella, LiLo's father told one rag: "Wait 'til I get this guy." Steer clear of Long Island, young man!
