For Illinois residents -- be they gay or straight -- legalizing a civil union with a beloved partner will be an option for the first time ever on June 1.
And one Illinois county doesn't want to let that moment pass without celebration.
Todd Sivia, an Edwardsville-based attorney who specializes in same-sex legal issues, tells Daily RFT that the Madison County Clerk asked him to help spread the word about a possible event for couples cementing their union that day. "It's a momentous type occasion," he says.
The clerk's not at sure this point what form the festivities will take -- but, since more than one couple is expected to rush to the county to formalize their bond that day, a lottery to select who goes first may be a part of it. "We're looking at a democratic process," Sivia promises.
