A few weeks back I mentioned how a group of people fed up with the draconian rules and overt commercialization of St. Louis Mardi Gras were planning an alternative festival this year.

Well, I now have specifics. The event will take place this coming Tuesday, February 24, around 6 p.m. at the corner of Bates Street and Compton Avenue in south city's Carondelet Neighborhood. (People unfamiliar with local geography might know the corner better as the home of the bar/restaurants Iron Barley and The Wedge.)

Like the original St. Louis Mardi Gras formed back in 1980, the event will be pretty bare bones. I'm told there will be beads, booze, music and a traditional New Orleans' parade -- sans floats.
