Missouri leads the nation in black homicides and how most of the victims (78 percent) are killed by people they know over some kind of disagreement.
Yesterday Maurice Murray became another statistic supporting that trend. According to St. Louis police, Murray -- a black 21-year-old male -- got into an argument around 7:40 p.m. last night with an acquaintance at Murray's home in the 1200 block of Gimblin.
Witnesses tell police that as the acquaintance left, he fired shots into Gimblin's home, striking him in the abdomen. Police say they've identified the suspect, although the man remains at large.
The lone bit of hope in this story? Murray was the city's second confirmed homicide of the year -- down sharply from this same date last year when the body count already stood at fourteen.
