Nicholas Settles hit a police car head-on twice on Wednesday, St. Louis cops say.
Nicholas Settles, 28, of Belleville was driving through north county around 8:30 p.m. when he was first spotted by police. The vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen from Alton, Illinois.
But when St. Louis cops tried to pull him over, Settles hit them head-on, backed up and then hit them again before veering away, police say.
He struck the police car a third time, sideswiping it as he fled, authorities say.
Settles drove off and raced through St. Louis city and on into Illinois before finally returning to Alton, where police had set up stop sticks that popped his tires. His nearly disabled vehicle banged into an Alton police car before a police K9 took him down, authorities say.
Settles was treated for a bite wound on Wednesday night, and he was charged on Thursday in St. Louis with first-degree assault on a special victim (St. Louis Police Officer Patrick Glaser) and felony resisting arrest. The police officers weren't injured.
Settles was jailed on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
