If you haven't heard, St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley has proposed closing 23 of the county's 49 parks next year to save $4.6 million in the 2012 budget year. The cuts would also close several community centers and eliminate 133 employees form the county's payroll.

Not surprisingly, many county residents are outraged with the proposal.

In the week since the announcement, critics of Dooley's plan have launched numerous online petitions. Next week, they plan to connect with Dooley face-to-face at a rally outside the County Government Center in Clayton.

The demonstration begins at 4:30 p.m. at  (41. S. Central Avenue) just prior to a county council hearing on the budget proposal. In the meantime, here's a great site with links to all sorts of online forums and pages where you can get involved and voice your opinion.
