The river first goes underground in University City between Harvard and Trinity avenues just north of Dartmouth (see map) and travels east before taking a dogleg along Des Peres Avenue in the city and heading into the park. The river then flows eastward down Lindell to Union and south through the park and beneath the lakes near Steinberg Rink. It crosses Highway 40 and flows under the St. Louis Science Center and St. Louis University High School before heading south to Manchester Avenue.
