The minority owner of the St. Louis Rams, Stan Kroenke, has reportedly asked the NFL if his wife could purchase the team outright.
The move would circumnavigate league rules that prevent Kroenke (owner of 40 percent of the Rams) from being the full owner of a football franchise because he also owns professionals sports teams (Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets) in an NFL city.
Kroenke's wife Ann Walton Kroenke is an heiress to the Wal-Mart fortune and estimated to be worth $3.2 billion. Meanwhile, Forbes estimates her husband's net worth at $3 billion.
Last month Kroenke stunned the Rams and its fan base when he announced he would exercise his right of first refusal to purchase the team after the franchise had already found a buyer in auto-parts mogul Shahid Khan of Champaign-Urbana.
