Where else might you grab a bite before the game? Let's assume you don't want to stray too far from Scottrade Center. If you're looking for a sports bar, there's the newly opened Hooters at Kiener Plaza (100 North Seventh Street; 314-588-0738). It's famous for wings, apparently.
Something a little more substantial? There's Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood (620 Market Street; 314-421-1540). You'll pay a little more for a steak here than at Bernie Federko's, but you'll notice the difference. And the mashed potatoes are awesome.
If I were going to the game, I'd probably stop by Tanner B's (1113 Pine Street, 314-588-1229). For about what you'd spend at a Scottrade Center concession stand -- maybe less, if you count booze -- you can get very good burgers and sandwiches, a hearty main dish like fried catfish or homemade meat loaf and one of my favorite appetizers in town, "Green Chili Won-Tons." These things are so addictive that if they were available at the game you wouldn't mind -- or even notice -- how bad the Blues are playing. -Ian Froeb
