But then, Blunt was speaking to a decidedly politically incorrect crowd last Friday when he addressed a conference sponsored by the religiously conservative Family Research Council.
As the Huffington Post observes this week, Blunt began his speech to the mostly white audience with an anecdote. Blunt told how in the early 1900s British occupiers in India decided to carve a golf course out of the verdant jungle of the subcontinent. The colonialists completed the task, but were then shocked when their golf game was disrupted by monkeys that would bound out of the jungle to mess with the white balls.
"..I could go into great and long detail about how many things they did to try and eliminate the 'monkey problem.' But they never got it done, so finally this golf course and this golf course only, they passed a rule and the rule was - you have to play the ball where the monkey throws it. [audience laughter swells] And that is the rule in Washington all the time. You know...
