Update: Andrew McKissick was arrested on Monday night in Memphis, Tennessee. The original story continues below:

Police in O'Fallon, Illinois, have identified a woman who burned to death in a city park this morning — and they named her husband as a person of interest.

Sherry Billups, 35, of O'Fallon was on fire next to her car this morning about 7:25 a.m. when police arrived after receiving reports of a vehicle fire, authorities say. Officers and passersby tried to help, but it was too late. She died there next to the car near Family Sports Park.

O'Fallon Police Chief Eric Van Hook told reporters during a news conference that investigators consider her death a homicide.

Sherry Billups was burned to death Monday in O'Fallon, Illinois.

This afternoon, police identified Billups' husband, 36-year-old Andrew Montez McKissick, as a person of interest. They say he is driving a 2002 Chevrolet Z71 extended cab pick-up with black trim bearing Illinois registration 2543195-B.

Police say they want to question McKissick in his wife's death, but have not named him as a suspect. The Belleville News-Democrat reports that the Illinois State Police suspect that a vehicle connected to the crime could be headed to Alabama or Mississippi.

McKissick has a long criminal record, including convictions for aggravated battery on a police officer, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful restraint.

Police ask anyone with information to call them at 618-624-9589.
