Officials say that an 84-year-old grandmother in St. Charles caught a burglar inside her home in the middle of the night -- and managed to hold the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.
The suspect, a woman named Britnee Taylor, had allegedly snagged $5,000 worth of jewelry along with the grandma's handicapped driving placard and car keys -- all while the woman was sleeping.
But eventually, the resident woke up -- and got her revolver. Check out the video interview below.
The news report comes from KSDK (Channel 5), which interviewed the grandmother, who wished to remain anonymous, last week about the February break-in:
Police say that Taylor, who is facing charges of felony burglary and stealing, is back in court today.
The incident took place at around 4 a.m. when the grandmother apparently woke up and noticed something was wrong.
She tells the station that after she saw that some of her belongings were rearranged, she found the suspect hiding in her closet.
So she went and grabbed her revolver and calmly told the burglar to come out of the closet.
At this point, the grandma says she led the girl into her kitchen and called police -- and successfully held her at gunpoint until the authorities arrived to arrest her.
"I just told her 'Okay now, come out of there,' or something like that and she came right out. And I said, 'We're going to go into the kitchen,'" she says.
The woman adds that she was determined not to let her get away.
"I did think about telling her, 'Just get yourself out of here,'...but then I thought, 'No, I can't do that. She has come into my house,'" she says.
