American Traffic Solutions Reminds Motorists to Drive Safely this Summer and Warns of Dangers of Red-Light Running

Crash Video Demonstrates Importance of Road Safety

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - American Traffic Solutions is asking motorists to drive safely this summer and is emphasizing its message with the release of a graphic crash video that shows the dangers of red-light running.

"As summer arrives there are more motorists out on the road," said Charles Territo, ATS Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Marketing, Communications. "We are asking all motorists to slow down and drive safely."

In St. Louis, the Red-Light Safety Camera program is improving safety at intersections by reducing red-light running. A City report issued last year provided an overview of the effectiveness of Red-Light Safety Cameras deployed in St. Louis. The impact of the Red-Light Safety Camera program on red-light running was evaluated, as well as the frequency of red-light running by motorists.

Red-light safety cameras are intended to reduce red-light running violations by changing driver behavior. As violations diminish, the risk of a red-light running collision also decreases.

Data analysis for the City of St. Louis shows the message is getting through so clearly that most drivers don't need to be told twice. Seventy seven percent of all drivers receiving a citation for running a red light only did so once. Of all red-light runners captured by the City's red-light cameras, 92 percent received only two or fewer citations. This low rate of repeat red-light running behavior indicates drivers in St. Louis are modifying their driving habits for the better.
