Downtown St. Louis: You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
A new ranking of the nation's most sinful cities, released this morning, determined that St. Louis is No. 2, just behind Vegas. In fact, we beat out Miami and New Orleans, neither a slouch when it comes to letting the good times roll.
One reason for our success? The Wallethub ranking doesn't just look at bad habits like drinking and smoking — two areas where St. Louis has long held its own — but also factors in the seven deadly sins, including anger and hatred (read: the violent crime rate), jealousy (ditto for theft), laziness (percentage of adults who don't exercise) and excesses and vices (the percentage of overweight adults). We scored sky-high in all the above — enough to make up for our comparatively lower scores in avarice (the number of casinos per capita, as well as the percentage of adults who gamble or have gambling problems) and lust (which involved factors like the teen birth rate and Tinder users per capita).
Really, in light of our nationwide dominance in some of these factors, it's almost astonishing that we only notched second place.
