St. Louis Police Targeted in Drive-By in Central West End

The St. Louis Police Department reports that three of its officers were shot at yesterday afternoon in the Central West End.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Boyle and Clayton. None of the officers were struck by bullets.

This morning the police provided the following summary of the incident:

Officers were following a vehicle after a suspect flourished a gun in the 1200 block of Grattan near Lafayette Square. The officers eventually lost site of the car at Forest Park and Boyle. Three detectives were at Clayton and Boyle investigating a separate incident when the suspect vehicle saw them.

As the car drove by the detectives, a suspect began shooting. No officers were injured. Another person at the intersection also had shots fired at their car however, there were no injuries in this incident.

The suspect who fired shots at the officers was taken into custody as were other individuals in the suspect vehicle. Their names will be released if/when the Circuit Attorney's Office issues warrants.

The department tells Daily RFT that the officers were in plain clothes but wearing vests identifying them as police officers.
