St. Louis Public Schools: No Wonder They're Unaccredited

A St. Louis Public Schools vocabulary quiz:

A "strike" is defined as:

a) Something Cardinals pitchers can't throw b) Labor organizing to earn a living wage and benefits c) Something rarely bowled by RFT staffers d) All of the above e) None of the above

Answer after the jump...

According to a press release issued yesterday by SLPS spokeswoman Deborah Sistrunk, the current strike by the district's bus drivers is "an unauthorized walkout by Laidlaw union bus drivers."

Why exactly are 500-plus bus drivers holding an "unauthorized walkout"?

From today's Post-Dispatch: "The district's drivers are asking for higher wages and, if possible, a benefit package. Under the current contract, they receive no benefits.

"'All we want is to live like normal people,' said driver Venezia Nunley. 'We want to be able to go to the doctor, go to the dentist and get eyeglasses so we can see. We make too much for food stamps, we make too much to be eligible for day-care assistance.'"

Tomorrow's vocab word: semantics.
