Sometimes it rains Faygo.
If you hear a “Whoop! Whoop!” outside your window one day, don’t get too excited thinking that Insane Clown Posse’s Juggalo army is coming to offer you Faygo and family.
Yesterday, the first Monday of the month, the City Emergency Management Agency tweeted that they were going to be “testing the new programming for the “Destructive Severe Thunderstorm Warning” which makes a loud “WhoopWhoop” noise but does not also include a voice speaking as part of the warning.
This month, we are testing the new programming for the Destructive Severe Thunderstorm Warning, so you should only hear the alert tone (WhoopWhoop) and NO VOICE.

This is a smart move on their part because not one single St. Louis City resident has ever heard the voice speaking in that previous alarm and understood the words that it was saying. It sounded nearly exactly like a big loud version of Charlie Brown’s teacher’s voice coming from the sky.
St. Louisans will be happy that CEMA is going out of its way to inform us of potential dangers. After all, it’s not just tornados but also severe thunderstorms that have been taking down branches lately in St. Louis City. And with the sporadic torrential rain we’ve been seeing recently, we all need a bit of extra warning to keep an eye out for flooding in the basements of our old red brick homes.
