The St. Louis Board of Aldermen will soon consider a bill to outlaw the sale and possession of synthetic cocaine marketed as bath salts.

KMOX reports that St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce is pushing the bill sponsored by Alderman Greg Carter (Ward 27).

"These are manufactured in Germany and deliberately sold and marketed to young people because of the high they can get by inhaling them," Joyce told KMOX. "They contain a substance called MDPV, which is highly addictive and can cause brain damage and is often fatal."

Last month, St. Charles County passed an ordinance banning the sale and possession of the drug. Meanwhile, the Missouri Legislature is considering a bill that would add bath salts to the state's list of illegal drugs.
