A semipro football player with the River City Eclipse was murdered on the streets of Midtown early Sunday morning.
Police say 29-year-old Stacey Johnson was leaving The Loft Jazz Club with some of his fellow teammates around 3 a.m. Sunday when they got in an argument with another group of men.
As Johnson and his friends were walking by Olive and N. Garrison, a Chevrolet Monte Carlo drove by firing shots into the crowd.
Johnson was shot once in the chest and pronounced dead at a hospital. Two other men were also sustained bullet wounds. They were running back Reon Little, 22, shot in the neck; and Tony Bell shot in the arm.
River City Eclipse is part of the Great Midwest Football League, a league designed to keep vulnerable men off the streets.
