Police say they're closing in on suspects in the lopsided attack on a pair of south city good Samaritans.
"Investigators have identified one individual and are working some strong leads relative to the other potential suspect(s)," a police spokeswoman tells the Riverfront Times in an email.
No arrests had been made as of this afternoon.
The victims — a 34-year-old woman and her 37-year-old boyfriend — were beaten by as many as fifteen people on Sunday in the Gravois Park neighborhood. The woman told police she'd seen the crowd harassing a teenage neighbor and shouted at them to leave her alone.
As a result of the good deed, the woman and her boyfriend were attacked. Both ended up in the hospital, authorities say. The boyfriend was beaten mercilessly and suffered a head injury. He was released on Wednesday from St. Louis University Hospital. The woman had already been released.
Friends are now trying raise money to cover the boyfriend's medical bills and lost wages. A GoFundMe page to benefit Rob Ludwig was created with a goal of $10,000 in donations.
