"I don’t think my boobs have that power over everything," says Rothschild, a somewhat exasperated Blues fan whose ample cleavage turned #RallyBoobs into a trending topic on Twitter during Sunday's playoff win against the San Jose Sharks.
"The focus should not be on me," says the mother of two. "The focus should be on the team, not on the boobs."
As we noted earlier today, the mere presence of cleavage behind the opposing team's bench on Sunday led to a familiar internet cocktail of adolescent glee and sexist bullshit — as well as conspiracy theories about the Blues "planting" Rothschild (and her bazongas) in the stands to distract Sharks players on the ice.
And although Rothschild's husband, David, previously told a fan blog that his wife's breasts did, in fact, attract the stares of several Sharks players, she now tells Riverfront Times that the joke has gone too far.
"The funny thing is we’ve sat in these seats for years and years. I’ve been wearing the same shirt. It's sad, that in this day and age women have to be so objectified," she says.
But there's no publicity like free publicity, and Rothschild and her husband have devised a way to leverage her sudden celebrity: Charity.
"If the focus is on the cleavage, let's take the cleavage for something good and raise some money for breast cancer awareness."
Indeed, Rothschild and her husband have created Team #RallyBoobs for the June 11 Susan G. Komen Greater St. Louis Race for the Cure. They're asking Blues fans and boobs fans alike to contribute funds for a good cause.
For tonight's Game 2 against the Sharks, Rothschild says she'll even be swapping her well-worn "Long Live the Note" shirt for a pink tank top espousing breast cancer awareness.
"I want to take away the objectification and sexualization of this whole thing," says Rothschild. "I just want to make this about something positive."
