Six shootings since Sunday is not a great start for spring.
At 2 p.m. Monday afternoon in the 3000 block of Abner Place (Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood), an unidentified suspect opened fire on two black males. They returned fire. A 54-year-old black man who was sitting on his porch dropped for cover, cracking his head open in the process -- he also took a bullet to the ankle. The duo of shooters fled the scene in a green Ford pick-up truck; the lone shooter fled also, but the victim didn't see how. The injured gentleman is now in stable condition at the hospital.
The second shooting took place barely ten blocks to the west of the first, in the 5800 block of Roosevelt Place. A 24-year-old black woman was sitting on her porch when a white, four-door Lexus with chrome wheels rolled up. Four black men ages 20 to 22 with scarves over their faces fired numerous shots, nicking the woman in the lower back as she ran for cover. She refused treatment for the minor injury.
All was quiet until about 10 p.m. A group of people was standing in the 4400 block of Harris Avenue in the O'Fallon Park neighborhood when an unidentified vehicle drove by with someone shooting out the window. A 28-year-old black man was shot in the leg while running, and was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
In all three cases, police continue to investigate.
