Friends say Melanie Harmann went for a walk on the afternoon of August 21 and never returned, leaving behind all of her possessions, including her wallet, cell phone, backpack and journal.
Harmann was on a road trip with her friends and made a stop in Seattle to attend Hempfest, a two-day political rally, concert and craft fair that attracts more than 300,000 pot smokers to the Seattle waterfront every year.
The Hempfest website says she is, "5-foot-4, slim build, was wearing a black dress and an earth-colored Baja sweatshirt." She was also, "wearing her hair in a 'Mohawk' style cut."
Harmann's MySpace page and Facebook profile say her nicknames are "rainbowmoonbeam" and "Spidermoonbeam." Her MySpace features several photos of her artwork and recent travels.
KIRO news radio reports that Seattle police have assigned a detective to the case and they are working with law enforcement in St. Louis. KIRO also has this profoundly sad quote from her mother:
Skyler Wiseman admits her daugher is trusting. "Melanie does not know strangers, she is very outgoing and open and loving and innocent," says Wiseman.Anyone with information about Harmann's disappearance is being urged to contact Seattle police at (206) 625-5011, her family at 314-393-8657 or email [email protected].
She doesn't rule out that her daughter just wandered off to meet new people, but she adds "it's just been so many days."
