Valley Park Plot Foiled

Despite a standing ovation in support of halting the use of city funds for litigation related to combating illegal immigration, the newly formed activist group Valley Park Citizens for Responsible Government failed to get its measure passed at Monday night's meeting of the Board of Aldermen. (See yesterday's post.)

After Alderman Don Carroll introduced the resolution, the board moved into executive session to discuss the measure and other matters. Upon its return to the public session, the aldermen voted 8-0 to send the resolution to City Attorney Eric Martin for review and potential semantic changes.

Mayor Jeffery Whitteaker, meanwhile, pledged his continued support for the ongoing lawsuits involving the city's illegal-immigration ordinances and said the city has a surplus of funds.

Valley Park Citizens for Responsible Government meets this evening to discuss its next steps, including possible litigation against the city's leaders.
