After Alderman Don Carroll introduced the resolution, the board moved into executive session to discuss the measure and other matters. Upon its return to the public session, the aldermen voted 8-0 to send the resolution to City Attorney Eric Martin for review and potential semantic changes.
Mayor Jeffery Whitteaker, meanwhile, pledged his continued support for the ongoing lawsuits involving the city's illegal-immigration ordinances and said the city has a surplus of funds.
Valley Park Citizens for Responsible Government meets this evening to discuss its next steps, including possible litigation against the city's leaders.
