VIDEO: Watch Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny Take a Fastball to the Face

Cardinals third baseman David Freese saw the video for the first time during the National League Championship last year.

"Right when he got nailed, you could tell his first thought was, 'Don't go down,'" Freese told MLB.com. "He walked it off with a mouthful of blood. That says something about what kind of guy he is."

Matheny's toughness got the ladies of Cardinal Nation all hot and bothered after Game One. As he disputed umpires calling Dustin Pedroia safe and leaving the bases loaded, the ladies of Cardinal Nation had a Twitter-gasm.
