The Belleville News-Democrat reports that a woman -- who is currently a suspect in a hit-and-run case -- recently left jail and was promptly beaten with a baseball bat by the mother of a victim of the hit-and-run in question.
Gilda Diane Lott, 52, pictured here, required 182 staples to be put into her head. She also suffered a broken thumb, fractured eye socket, broken hand and bruises.
Now, Lott's family wants her attacker to be charged with attempted murder.
According to the BND, Lott was walking to a friend's house on North 48th Street when the mother of the victim spotted her. After a brief exchange, the victim's mother returned with a baseball bat and started swinging.
The hit-and-run occurred on July 3. Lott reportedly admitted to running over a group of four individuals intentionally, claiming she feared for her safety following an altercation with the foursome.
The suspect has not been named, and no charges have been filed. The severity of the injuries sustained by the hit-and-run victims is also not clear. We left a message with Washington Park Police Chief David Clark, and we'll update when he responds.
Lott's daughter, Lakeisha Lott, told the BND: "My mother has headaches and trouble remembering things. She can't do too much. Her hand is broken and her eye socket is fractured."
"If they (police) hadn't stopped her, I believe my mother would be dead," she said.
