Wash. U Lady Bears Prepare to Defend National Title

This weekend is a big one for college hoops. Arch Madness comes to town. The suddenly hot Saint Louis University team will attempt to win its fifth in a row. And perhaps most importantly, the Washington University Lady Bears will take their first step toward defending their national-championship throne.

The No. 12-ranked Bears (20-5) will tip off tonight against the No. 10-ranked Denison (28-0) in the first round of the Division III national women's tournament. The game will be played at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. The Bears are the defending champions.

The Webster University men's and women's basketball teams also earned bids to their respective D-III tournaments.

The men's team (20-6) will play No. 7 Augustana (24-3) on Saturday in Rock Island, Illinois. And the women's team (17-10) will face off tonight against No. 7 Illinois Wesleyan (23-4) in Bloomington, Illinois.

Yesterday, four members of the Wash U. women's squad were selected as all-conference players.
