Path over the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge
The
Great Rivers Greenway today announced that it's struck a deal with a casino developer that wants to build a new gaming facility in north St. Louis.
The deal has the GRG donating a small chunk of land near the
Old Chain of Rocks Bridge to the casino in exchange for the company pledging to improve the public path near and along the bridge, provide a parking lot, restrooms and lighted security 24-hours a day.
Earlier this month, Koman Group -- owners of the Casino Queen in East St. Louis -- was the
only company to submit a bid with St. Louis for a new casino.
The Missouri Gaming Commission is expected to choose a site for the state's 13th and final gaming license this year.
GRG tells
Daily RFT that even if no casino comes to St. Louis, the developer has agreed to sell it -- at fair market price -- some 11 acres near the bridge so that GRG can go ahead and build a trailhead of its own.
