Woman Believes God Saved Her From Armed Burglars in East St. Louis

A Christmas miracle in -- of all places -- East St. Louis?

That's the story you get when listening to the tale of Tabitha Moore. The 29-year-old was asleep on the couch of her East St. Louis apartment around 5:45 a.m. Friday morning when burglars broke through the door carrying assault rifles.

In the predawn blackness, Moore lay still in her dark apartment covered by blankets as the men searched the home and took their time unscrewing a flat-screen TV from its stand.

Moore said she prayed to God to keep her still. After ten minutes, she thought the men had left when she rose from the couch only to come face-to-face with one of the burglars.

"Now you have to die because you seen my eyes," the man reportedly told Moore, as he pushed the barrel of the gun to her forehead. Then, just as he was about to pull the trigger, sirens from an approaching police car scared him off.

The burglars were later apprehended in Centreville. Moore, meanwhile, believes a higher power saved her from certain death. "It was God," she said.

Her husband, who'd left the apartment at 3:45 a.m. for his job at McDonald's, had more down-to-earth thoughts: "I think it's time to move," he said.
