THE BEST "STUFF" IN THE WORLD COMES TO THE SAINT CHARLES CONVENTION CENTER ON MAY 5-9
THE 2009 WORLD TAXIDERMY AND FISH CARVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
ST. CHARLES, MO - For the first time ever, the World Taxidermy and Fish Carving Championships, sponsored by Breakthrough Magazine, are being held at the Saint Charles Convention Center on Tuesday, May 5, through Saturday, May 9, 2009. The competition is a display of the finest wildlife art from all over the world, with a variety of native U.S. wildlife, including whitetail deer, bears, mountain lions, ducks, game birds, bass, and trout.
Approximately 1,000 taxidermists and fish carvers are going to be in attendance at this year's show. Past shows in the Midwest area have attracted around 600 entries, representing over all 50 states and 20 countries. The taxidermy profession is more than just exhibiting an animal or fish for personal satisfaction. It has evolved into a form of natural history with artistic composition and design that brings museum quality work into the homes of hunters, fishermen, and wildlife enthusiasts worldwide.
"Anyone who views this competition will be amazed at how realistic these compositions are," said Larry Blomquist, show promoter and publisher of Breakthrough Magazine. "People are always truly impressed with the careful attention to detail that these taxidermists have when creating and exhibiting these artistic pieces. Some past winning pieces have sold for tens of thousands of dollars!"
The five-day convention will be open for public viewing on May 8 and May 9, allowing a rare glimpse into this fascinating world of taxidermy. Times for public viewing are on May 8, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., and on May 9, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Admission for the public viewing is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 years of age or younger. Benefits from this admission go to the World Show award fund, and a portion goes to a local charity. In addition to the public viewing, there will be over 20 seminars from leading industry experts and a huge exhibition area featuring the top suppliers of taxidermy services, supplies, and technology. The climax of the event is the competition itself, with $25,000 in cash prizes being awarded to the top taxidermists in the world.
