Kid Care app allows parents to diagnose illness via the iPhone.
Tech-savvy parents can now diagnose their sick kids before taking a needless trip to the doctor thanks to an iPhone App developed by
St. Louis Children's Hospital.
Kid Care is an app designed to provide parents with the same information pediatricians use. A parent can select symptoms and get a list of possible ailments. Once the right problem is identified, the app displays additional information and suggested treatments.
"Health problems can arise anytime - evenings, weekends, when you're at work or traveling," says Suzi Wells, a nurse and manager of Children's Hospital's Answer Line. "The application helps you make smart decisions on what level of care is needed and how to provide speedy relief for your child's minor illnesses or injuries that you can manage on your own."
Jackie Ferman, media relations manager at Children's Hospital, tells
Daily RFT that the app was launched January 20, and has so far been downloaded more than 1,000 times.
Ferman also says that Children's Hospital has been thrilled with the response to the app but does not have any other iPhone ventures planned.
Kid Care uses content developed by
Self Car Decisions, LLC, a company that provides clinical protocols in use all around the country. So, now everybody can access the same information used by pediatricians and nurses in 10,000 practices and 400 nurse advice call centers in the US and Canada.
Kid Car can be downloaded from the Apple AppStore or from
this link on the Children's Hospital website.
