Here's your weekly St. Louis bestseller list for the week ending June 10, as compiled by the St. Louis Independent Booksellers Alliance and based on sales at Left Bank Books, Main Street Books, Pudd'nhead Books, Subterranean Books and Sue's News.
Could the book-buyers of St. Louis be in revolt against the Fifty Shades juggernaut? Not because they made Kiss the Dead, the latest entry in local author Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, this week's number-one bestseller. Hamilton writes just as many steamy sex scenes as E.L. James, only hers involve vampires and werewolves.
No, look lower, to number three Hearse and Buggy by Laura Bradford and number five Reap What You Sew by Elizabeth Lynn Casey, both cozy mysteries about small towns and sewing circles and Amish people, with nary a butt plug or ben wa ball to be seen. Is there anything more antithetical to Fifty Shades than these?
Also new on the list: Cronkite by Douglas Brinkley, which was probably given to a lot of dads yesterday.
