Here's your weekly St. Louis bestseller list for the week ending December 4, as compiled by the St. Louis Independent Booksellers Alliance and based on sales at Left Bank Books, Main Street Books, Pudd'nhead Books, Subterranean Books and Sue's News.
The number one book on this week's bestseller list answers a question anyone who has ever been stuck watching Live With Regis and Kelly (or Kathie Lee) in a doctor's office or car dealership has yearned to know: How I Got This Way. (To clarify: How Regis Philbin got this way. Not his unwilling audience.) Some of you with really long memories may have wondered this as long ago as the 70s when Reeg hosted Regis Philbin's Saturday Night on KMOV (Channel 4) (then KMOX-TV).
Also on the list this week: Death on a Platter, the latest entry in Elaine Viets's Josie Marcus, Mystery Shopper series. In this installment, the tireless St. Louis mystery shopper explores the culinary world with the usual deadly results. A direct quote from the book:
"Brains are a delicacy." Harry bared his teeth in a smile that made Josie want to back away. "You only have to go to one brain sandwich place. And look at all the other good food you get to eat -- toasted ravioli, St. Louis pizza."
Ah, yes. Lucky woman, that Josie Marcus.
