Lose Fat, Get Paid

If it sounds like a deal, just remember the offer comes with a few strings attached. Namely, doctors get to treat you like a lab rat.

The Washington University at St. Louis School of Medicine is currently recruiting new people for an ongoing calorie restriction study that involves regular checkups and group sessions with a therapist and dietician. In other words, this ain't no South Beach diet. Good news is there isn't a lot of exercise involved. Watching what you eat is key.

Dubbed CALERIE, Comprehensive Assessment of Long-term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy, approved participants for the two-year study learn to adjust their diet so they take in 25 percent less calories than normal.

Researchers believe eating fewer calories affects aging: You know, a carrot a day keeps the wrinkles away? Adhering to the low-calorie diet will also likely prevent heart disease, arthritis, and other elderly afflictions that affect normal eaters, according research.

In the meantime, organizers are mum about how much cash will be doled out. Needless to say, it's not going to be enough for retirement. For more information, call 314-747-3180.
