Tuesday, March 10: Morning's Newz

Acclaimed sculptor and lifelong St. Louisan Ernest Trova is dead at 82. Trova was best known for his Falling Man series and helping to found St. Louis' Laumeier Sculpture Park.

Pope Benedict XVI stripped the Rev. Marek Bozek of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church of his functions as a priest. The move is just the latest clerical edict aimed at Bozek, who's angered the Vatican and former St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke for refusing to hand over the church and its finances to the archdiocese. Burke excommunicated Bozek a few years back. Yesterday the defrocked priest defiantly told the Post-Dispatch: "They've killed me once. They can't kill me twice."

Police in East St. Louis are still looking for a gunman who mowed down two men last week with an AK-47. The gunman and two accomplices escaped in a stolen Monte Carlos with Missouri plates. The car was later recovered burning in Washington Park, Illinois. The shooting victims are recovering.
