Xavier Ends SLU's Season

As expected, the Billikens got steamrolled Thursday afternoon by Xavier, losing 66-47.

They might have had a chance if it weren't for that meddling B.J. Raymond and his 30-foot half-time buzzer beating antics.

SLU never got closer than within fourteen points in the second half, showing just how far the program has to go before it can compete against the top tier of their conference.

Head coach Rick Majerus' assessment: "Xavier is an outstanding team, they're really good. They're deep, athletic, strong, veteran...they just flat-out beat us."

He probably should have added, "They're everything we're not," just to clarify where he was going with those post-loss remarks.

Senior Kevin Lisch ended his career by scoring thirteen points and Willie Reed capped an impressive freshman season by adding ten points. The Bills' record ended up 18-14 overall and 8-9 in the A-10.

While the 2008-09 squad showed promise and potential at times, ultimately the year has to be considered a disappointment, especially considering the fact that the team featured two of the top players in school history in Lisch and Tommie Liddell. Losing those two leaves just one upperclassman and no seniors for next year's squad, so it's hard to be optimistic about that bunch either.

But hey, at least the cheerleading program is headed in the right direction, right?
