Friday, March 27: Morning's Newz

Posted By on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 9:15 AM

Oh, baby! How 'bout those Mizzou Tigers?! My grad-school alma mater (thank you!) heads to the Elite 8 after knocking off No. 2 seed Memphis in a thrilling victory last night in Arizona. Up 24 points early in the second half, the MU Tigers held off a late rally by those other Tigers, Memphis, to win 102-91. Mizzou next plays UConn on Saturday at 4:40 p.m.

St. Louis officials are on the offensive after the ACLU released a report earlier this week lambasting the city for conditions at its jails. Turns out, though, that at least three of the ACLU's confidential sources were correction officers who were previously disciplined by the city correction's department for violating rules.

Federal agents raided the office of East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks yesterday. The feds reportedly seized liquor fee documents. Parks also serves as liquor commissioner in East St. Louis. In recent weeks, police and law enforcement officials in Illinois have held several meetings to try to get East. St. Louis officials to rein in the city's 24-hour bars and nightclubs. Parks, meanwhile, has remained mum on the issue.

It's March 27, a.k.a. World Theatre Day. And you know what Mr. Shakespeare says, "All the world is a stage."
