The city's budget is shrinking by 4 percent this next fiscal year, and officials are looking to employee furloughs as one way to cut costs.

The furloughs, which still require approval from the Board of Aldermen, could save the city $3.1 million, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.  Managers would be required to take two weeks of unpaid leave, while much city's 4,000 lower-level employees would take one week off.
