Congratulations to former Riverfront Times copy editor (and current freelance writer) Brooke Foster for conclusion of her new book Moon St. Louis. It's the first nationally published guide to St. Louis and out just in time for the thousands of visitors expected to land here next month for the All-Star Game. (Hint, hint baseball travelers.)

The book is one of several guides Moon has published in recent years exploring U.S. cities (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Baltimore, etc.) often overlooked by international travelers.

In the 232-page Moon St. Louis, Foster breaks down the city into sections highlighting restaurants, the arts, hotels, nightlife, shopping and sightseeing. But, says the author, it was the history section of the book she found to be most compelling.

"Having lived in St. Louis for a number of years, I feel I was very familiar with the things to do and see in the city," says Foster. "But it wasn't until I began researching the background of all these institutions that I learned so many of the unusual and quirky stories that make St. Louis what it is. I think that's the part of the book that local readers will also find most interesting."

Moon St. Louis goes on sale this week and is available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, independent booksellers and amazon.com.
