The Postcards That Brought Down a Senator

Posted By on Tue, Aug 25, 2009 at 4:17 PM

Here are a few images of the postcards Jeff Smith's congressional campaign mailed out back in 2004 to some 25,000 constituent attacking fellow candidate Russ Carnahan.

Convicted felon, Democratic Party strategist, and suspected bomber Milton "Skip" Ohlsen allegedly assisted Smith in the mailings, which pointed people to the now defunct website, www.rustycarnahan.org.

Today Jeff Smith (now a state senator) pleaded guilty for twice lying to officials investigating the anonymous mailings, which violate federal election laws.

P.S. Carnahan won the election despite the mailings.

And here's another grainy image (is that a beach scene?) of one more negative advertisement mailed out attacking Carnahan.
