St. Louis came close to its 2006 title as the nation's "Most Dangerous City", but alas it was not to be this year.

Today CQ Press released its annual crime survey, a report which until recently ranked cities under the moniker "most dangerous." Today CQ Press uses the more PC term "crime rank" to compare cities.

Based on FBI data from 2008, Camden, New Jersey, now enjoys the highest rate of violent crime with 2,332.6 violent crimes per 100,000 population.

St. Louis is now ranked No. 2 (up from our fourth place ranking last year).

The survey ranks cities based on the number of murders, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, and motor vehicle thefts

See CQ Press' list of the Top 6 most crime-plagued cities in the nation after the jump.

1. Camden, New Jersey
2. St. Louis, Missouri
3. Oakland, California
4. Detroit, Michigan
5. Flint, Michigan
6. New Orleans, Louisiana (last year's No. 1 most violent city)
