Alan Sindelar, of the 4600 block of Wilcox in south St. Louis, was about ten blocks from his home on Thursday, January 14, when he got in an altercation in the 3400 block of Morganford.

Witnesses report seeing Sindelar, 43, around 9:15 p.m. struggling on the sidewalk with a suspect described only as black male. The suspect pointed a gun at Sindelar, according to witnesses, and shot him before jumping into a light-blue, four-door sedan and heading north on Morganford. Police say an accomplice -- described only as a black male -- was behind the wheel of the car.

Police arrived to the scene to discover Sindelar lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the chest and underarm. Police believe one of the wounds may have been where the bullet exited the body -- as witnesses reported hearing only one gunshot. At this time, it is unclear what led to the struggle between the victim and the suspect, though detectives are investigating the possibility that it was a robbery attempt.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this crime is encouraged to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous.
