Mangia Italiano Goes Smoke-Free March 1

Posted By on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 10:25 AM

As Riverfront Times music editor Annie Zaleski reported this morning on A to Z, the popular bar and restaurant on South Grand announced yesterday via their Twitter feed that they're going to become a non-smoking establishment starting March 1.

An RFT interview earlier this month with David Timney, the restaurant's executive chef, revealed that they had been pondering the change for some time, having received several smoke-related customer complaints.

Robin Wheeler quoted Timney on Gut Check:
We've discussed [going non-smoking] in the last couple of weeks. Online, we have feedback and the biggest complaint is the smoking. So we're thinking maybe introducing non-smoking sooner. We don't want to disappoint the smokers who come here and have been coming here for years. It's kind of a touchy subject.
Mangia already has a couple votes in our Smokiest Bar poll (voting is still open, click here to participate) that's being conducted in conjunction with this week's feature story on smoking ban loopholes. But, as our music editor points out, the news today probably means they should be exempted. (From the poll, of course, not the smoking ban.)
