St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued warrants yesterday on Melvin Johnson, 44, for the murder of 80-year-old Willie Furnace.

Furnace was found beaten to death January 6 in the 10000 block of Baron in Spanish Lake. It is believed that Furnace and Johnson were acquaintances involved in an altercation. Johnson was questioned and released early in the investigation and was arrested February 24 after evidence at the scene linked him to the crime.

Johnson, of the 100 block of Grampian in Glasgow Village, is charged with one count of murder in the second-degree and one count of armed criminal action. He's being held without bond.
