Posted By on Mon, Mar 1, 2010 at 12:28 PM

Derrick Clark became the city's 20th homicide of the year Saturday. This year's murders-to-date surpass by seven the 13 homicides reported for the first two months of 2009.

According to reports Clark, 22,  was driving down the 4400 block of Aldine near Newstead and Martin Luther King Boulevard around 1:15 a.m. Saturday when his car was forced to stop by a white vehicle.

A passenger in that vehicle then exited into the street and shot Clark several times in the shoulder and back. Clark, of the 4400 of Garfield, was able to drive a few hundred feet before crashing his auto into a fire hydrant and passing car. The occupant in the other vehicle was unhurt.

Clark was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
